Doris Kearns Goodwin is a writer, biographer, and a political commentator with a doctorate in History from Harvard. She is a multi-talented literary legend most well known for her biographies of United States Presidents.

Her 1967 meeting with President Lyndon B. Johnson sparked her love for writing biographies of the most powerful men in the world. Her first book, Lyndon Johnson and the American Dream was published in 1976. In 1994 Goodwin published a memoir in which she detailed her youth and the development of her interest in politics.

With humor, poise, and a unique style of storytelling, this master historian brings history alive.

Currently residing in Concord, Massachusetts, along with writing, Goodwin is also a government professor at Harvard.

Works/Achievements:

  • Wrote the biographies of some of the great American presidents, including: Lyndon Johnson and the American Dream, The Fitzgeralds and the Kennedys, No Ordinary Time: Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt: The Home Front in World War II and Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln and The Bully Pulpit: Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, and the Golden Age of Journalism.
  • Pulitzer Prize Winner in 1995 for No Ordinary Time: Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt: The Home Front in World War II.
  • Goodwin won the 2005 Lincoln Prize, awarded for the best book about the American Civil War.
