Debbie Reynolds is an award winning actress, singer and dancer. She was born in El Paso, Texas in 1932 and in 1939 her family moved to Burbank, California where she was bitten by the acting bug. By the age of sixteen, Reynolds was signed by Warner Bros, and later by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, where she was awarded small but significant roles in several films. Her big break at the age of nineteen, was landing the lead role in Singin’ in the Rain along with Gene Kelly and Donald O’Connor.

By the mid-1950s, Debbie Reynolds was a major Hollywood star. She went on to appear in over 70 films. In 1973, Reynolds was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical for her performance in the Broadway show Irene. She also received an Emmy Award nomination for playing Grace’s mother on the hit television sitcom Will & Grace.

Throughout her acting career, she was also continually making music. She recorded her first album called Debbie in 1959. Reynolds also scored two top-25 Billboard hits with A Very Special Love (1958) and Am I That Easy to Forget (1960). She has released several albums of her performances.

Throughout her long and illustrious career, Reynolds has been nominated for many prestigious awards. Reynolds has earned several life time achievement awards including the American Comedy Award and the Screen Actors Guild Award. She has devoted many years of her life to The Thalians, a charitable organization dedicated to educating the world about mental illness.

  • Her starring role in The Unsinkable Molly Brown earned her a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actress.
  • Reynolds has amassed an impressive collection of movie memorabilia, including Marilyn Monroe’s white “subway dress” and Charlie Chaplin’s bowler hat.
  • In 1997, she was awarded a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame
  • Reynolds is one of the few actresses to have been fortunate enough to have danced on screen with both Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly.
