Celebrity Speaker For Hire: Charles Barkley
Professional basketball legend Charles Barkley is one of the most well known names in the NBA and now in sports entertainment. Born in Leeds, Alabama, Barkley made his way to the varsity team at Leeds High School and from there was recruited to Auburn University where he played basketball and majored in business management.
Barkley left Auburn University before his final year and become eligible for the 1984 NBA draft which landed him with the Philadelphia 76ers. Before the 1986 season Barkley took control of the team, which led him straight to the NBA All Star team. Next season he became the Sixers franchise player and went on to his second All Star Game and was named to the All NBA Second Team honors for the second year straight. In the 1992, Barkley was traded to the Phoenix Suns and again in 1996 Barkley was traded to the Houston Rockets. Barkley prematurely ended his career at 36 after a quadriceps injury in Philadelphia. After his iconic basket in a home game against the Vancouver Grizzlies, Barkley announced his retirement and ended his sixteen year Hall of Fame career.
Barkley competed on the USA team for the Olympics in 1992 and 1996, winning gold both times. He is one of the most iconic NBA players of our time.
Since his retirement from the NBA, Barkley started as a studio analyst for TNT. He has served as the broadcaster for every Final Four since 2011.
Works/Achievements:
- Barkley received the NBA MVP award in 1993 and the NBA All-Star Game Most Valuable Player Award in 1991.
- In 1994 Barkley received an ESPY Award for Outstanding Performance by an Athlete.
- Barkley is a two time Sports Emmy Award winner for Outstanding Sports Broadcasting.
