A fourteen year NFL career has given Boomer Esiason extensive knowledge of the NFL network and his successful career has led him to even more opportunities in retirement. Esiason started his football career at the University of Maryland, after which he was selected in the second round of the 1984 NFL draft by the Cincinnati Bengals. During his fourteen year NFL career, Esiason was the quarterback for the Cincinnati Bengals, New York Jets and the Arizona Cardinals. He is one of the most well known, successful and wanted quarterbacks in NFL history.

After earning his first Pro Bowl bid in 1986, he led the NFL in 1988 with an outstanding passer rating leading the Cincinnati Bengals to win the AFC Championship. Esiason was given the Most Valuable Player award by the Pro Football Writers of America and the Associated Press in 1988. Esiason became a Pro Bowler for the second time in 1993 after he was traded to the Jets. Four seasons into his Jets contract, Esiason became the team’s fourth best ever passer. He then played a year for the Arizona Cardinals and then returned to Cincinnati where he chose to retire his NFL career.

In 1997, Esiason ended his career with 2,969 completions in 5,205 passing attempts, 247 touchdowns and 37,930 yards. Upon retiring from professional NFL, he decided to debut his career as commentator for ABC’s NFL Monday night football. Currently, Esiason broadcasts for CBS Sports on The NFL Today, Westwood One for Monday Night Football, the Super Bowl and Showtime’s Inside the NFL. Currently he is also the host of a morning sports radio show called Boomer and Carton on WRAN in New York.

  • Boomer earned the NFL’s Most Valuable Player in 1988.
  • In 1995, he was awarded the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award for his charity work.
  • When Esiason retired in 1997 he finished in the top ten all time quarterbacks.
