Cybill Lynne Shepherd is an American actress, singer and former model. Born in Memphis, Tennessee, Shepherd’s career began at a young age in modeling, when she won the “Miss Teenage Memphis” contest in 1966 and the “Model of the Year” contest in 1968. She became a fashion icon and went on to grace the cover of every major magazine, as well as famously act as spokesperson for L’Oreal. This lead to her acting and her screen debut in Peter Bogdanovich’s “The Last Picture Show” (1971) for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe. Shepherd continued to build her film career with influential roles in The Heartbreak Kid (1972) and Taxi Driver (1976). She went on to star with Bruce Willis in the highly recognized show, Moonlighting (1985), which won Shepherd two Golden Globe Awards and became a career defining role. Her third Golden Globe followed for her series, Cybill (1995), in which she also took on a producer role.

Shepherd has recently appeared in the television shows Psych and The Client List. She is also an accomplished singer, cabaret performer and recording artist. She has performed sold out concerts around the world blending rock, blues, ballad and standards as well as her own compositions. She has recorded nine albums, including “Cybill Getz Better” with Stan Getz, “Vanilla” with Phineas Newborn Jr., “Somewhere Down the Road” featuring a title cut with Peabo Bryson, “Cybill Does It To Cole Porter,” “At Long Last Love,” “Talk Memphis to Me,” and “Songs from the Cybill Show”. In 2000, Shepherd published her memoir Cybill Disobedience.

Aside from the film industry, Shepherd has been an outspoken activist for issues such as gay rights and a woman’s right to choose. In 2009, she was honored by the Human Rights Campaign in Atlanta to accept one of two National Ally for Equality awards. She is also an active supporter of Civil Rights actions.
